From Global Goals to Local Impact: How Philanthropy Can Help Achieve the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals in the U.S.

Council on Foundations in partnership with the SDG Philanthropy Platform recently released a report calling on domestic funders to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on a local level, indicating that U.S. philanthropy has a critical role to play in supporting and advancing these global goals.

This new report addresses ways U.S. funders can integrate the SDGs into their domestic grantmaking. In addition, the report features case studies on how domestic program initiatives overlap with the SDGs, and includes a helpful checklist for the philanthropic sector and grantmaking institutions to achieve success.

The report’s recommendations for U.S. philanthropy include prioritizing collaborations and partnerships; leveraging the power of data and technology; raising awareness of the SDGs among staff, grantees, peers, and the public; tracking progress toward the goals and identifying new ways to measure that progress; engaging local leaders and grassroots organizations; and seeking new ways to catalyze long-term projects and funding toward the SDGs.
