In September, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and Population Reference Bureau supported a special side event, “Partnering With Adolescent Mothers to Break the Cycle of Intergenerational Poverty,” at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The side event was co-hosted by the Children’s Rights and Violence Prevention Fund, Children’s Rights Innovation Fund, GIRL Center Population Council, International Resource for Impact Storytelling, and We Are Purposeful.

Attendees reflected on narratives and insights from adolescent mothers in Kenya, Mozambique, and Tanzania as they articulated their needs, priorities, and solutions for providing nurturing care for their children and securing their own futures. A high-level discussion on what formal powerholders can do to elevate adolescent mothers and actively engage them in program development and implementation featured commitments from government ministry representatives and multilateral organizations.

Available on this page you will find a recording of the event, along with the presentation deck, an immersive acoustic experience, and featured video commentary.
