Sonja Uwimana coordinates grantmaking activities for the program department of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. Uwimana monitors current grants and supports the development, review and presentation of grant proposals related to the Catholic Sisters Initiative. Prior to joining the Hilton Foundation, Uwimana served as Sudan country manager for Saferworld, based in Kampala, Uganda. Uwimana also previously worked for the National Endowment for Democracy, where she managed a grant portfolio of civil society development programs in Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Burundi. She is a former Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar to the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South African, and holds a master’s degree in international affairs from the New School, and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Pomona College.
