Increasing Visibility and Need for the SBIRT Framework

December 14, 2018

Annual Evaluation Report of the Substance Use Prevention Strategic Initiative by Abt Associates

Since 2013, our focus on the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) framework within our Substance Use Prevention Strategic Initiative has had a tremendous impact on youth, their families and providers.

Developed by our Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) partners at Abt Associates, this recent evaluation report shows the Strategic Initiative is making strong progress toward our goals of increasing training among youth-serving providers, improving youth access to SBIRT services, and increasing research and learning on the effectiveness of the SBIRT framework.

“The Foundation’s investment in this initiative has significantly increased the visibility and need for screening, early identification and intervention for issues related to youth substance use.”

In addition to meeting the goals set forth in the Strategic Initiative, this work has led to improved understanding of substance use as a public health issue, and our partners have successfully identified and engaged advocates and policymakers to support youth substance use prevention.
