A Message from our Chairman
Steve Hilton, our Chairman, President & CEO talks about his pending retirement and his plans to stay on as the Foundation’s Chairman.
With my December 31, 2015 retirement date approaching, this seems a good time to share some reflections.
As many of you know, my tenure at the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation began back in 1983, including the last 17 years as president and CEO. Leading this global humanitarian enterprise has touched my heart and soul and given profound meaning to my life. I feel blessed to have found my calling in carrying on the inspiring philanthropic legacy of my grandfather Conrad Hilton, and my father Barron Hilton. We have devoted the collective energies of our dedicated board of directors and our talented staff to translating a noble vision into concrete programs that strive to improve the lives of millions of disadvantaged and vulnerable people around the world. I am deeply grateful to our directors, staff, colleagues and grantee partners for making a meaningful and positive difference in the lives of those in need.
I believe that we have found in my successor, Peter Laugharn, someone with both the intellect and the heart to lead this foundation into the future. I look forward to working closely with Peter as I continue my role of chairman.
In addition to carrying out my responsibilities as chairman, I also hope to write a book about my experiences in philanthropy, serve as an ambassador in creating partnerships with foundations, individuals, corporations and government entities; and spend more time in the ocean enjoying my lifelong passion – surfing. Rest assured that, wherever my adventures may lead me, my spirit will remain connected to our work and to furthering the mission of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation into the foreseeable future.
I am pleased that our paths have crossed during my journey here and I wish you all the best.
Steven M. Hilton
