Kemal Dervis speaking at the 2006 Humanitarian Symposium

Kemal Derviş gave the keynote address at the 2006 Humanitarian Symposium.

This eighth international Humanitarian Symposium sponsored by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation brought together leaders from governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), foundations, academia, corporations, multilateral institutions, and the media to reflect on the connections between democracy and development, especially in the areas of political, economic, and human rights. In addition to the distinguished panelists, Kemal Derviş, administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, delivered the keynote address. As in previous years, the Symposium was broadcast on the Internet.

The Symposium was held in conjunction with the eleventh annual presentation of the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize. Václav Havel, intellectual, playwright, and former President of the Czech Republic, was the keynote speaker at the Prize ceremony honoring 2006 Prize recipient, Women for Women International, at a dinner following the day-long Symposium.
