The Changing Face of Philanthropy: Evolution or Revolution?
Speakers at the 2007 Hilton Humanitarian Symposium in the Empire Room at the Waldorf Astoria.
September 12, 2007 – New York City
This ninth international Humanitarian Symposium sponsored by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation brought together leaders from governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), foundations, corporations, multilateral institutions, and the media to reflect on the changing face of philanthropy; whether it is the result of evolution or revolution; and where it is taking humanitarian activity. As in previous years, the Symposium was broadcast on the Internet.
The Symposium was held in conjunction with the twelfth annual presentation of the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize. Ban Ki-moon, U.N. Secretary-General, was the keynote speaker at the Prize ceremony honoring 2007 Hilton Prize recipient, Tostan, at a dinner following the day-long Symposium. Tostan is a Senegal-based literacy organization whose community empowerment programs are centered on a foundation of human rights and democracy.
